Please Consider Donating--100 Cans of Kindness

Today was the 84th day of school! We will be doing a service project for the 100th Day of School! I would like to collect 100 canned/boxed goods to donate to Caughdenoy Methodist Church's Food Pantry. Our goal is to collect 100 items by the 100th day of school. Please consider sending in some canned or boxed goods. If every student in the class donated just 5 items, we would have over 100 items to donate!!

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation!!

An Educational and Fun Field Trip to Hospital-Land!

The students enjoyed a fun trip to Hospital-Land. They acted out a short skit about a young girl going to the hospital with her parents to have her tonsils removed. Nurse Jo was the nurse who taught us all about a visit to the hospital. She was wonderful. Destanie was out "patient," Madelyn and Caleb were her parents. The doctors were Susanna, the anesthesiologist, and Brett. Eight nurses helped transport Destanie to the "operating room and back to her bed after the "surgery." These eight nurses were Jadalynn, Abigail, Renee, Madelyn, Nicholas, Edward, Christian and Cheyanna. The wake-up nurse was William who got to "wake up" Destanie after her surgery. The three nurses who helped out after the surgery were Jaidelynn, Alyssa and Jaden. Logan was the discharge nurse. John and Dylan got to help out with Gus Gutz and show the kids about the internal organs!! He was cool!!

After the skit, the students had fun taking turns in centers. They rode in a wheelchair and got to push people in a wheelchair, used a walker and crutches, rode on a stretcher, listened to their heartbeat with a stethoscope, used a blood pressure cuff, tried on casts, learned about internal organs from "Gus Gutz" and sat on a hospital bed and told Nurse Jo their hospital or doctor stories. We even saw real x-rays!!

Thank you to Mr. Haynes for chaperoning this field trip. we appreciate your help. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

Hospital-Land Field Trip

Field trip permission slips were sent home today. We will be going to Hospital-Land in Syracuse across from Crouse Hospital next Monday, January 10, 2011. Please sign and fill out the permission slip ASAP. I have to notify the cafeteria ASAP how many bag lunches will be needed. We will eat in the classroom when we return from the trip. The cafeteria will be closed. We do need chaperones. The children will be taking part in centers and it is always helpful to have an adult at each center. There is no cost for the field trip so all you need to return is the signed permission slip and bag lunch form, if needed.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR RETURNING THE FORM PROMPTLY!!!

What is Hospital-Land?

"Since 1976, Crouse Hospital has been educating first-grade students throughout Onondaga County (more than 5,000 in 2009; 165,000 since '76) with our free Visit to Hospital-Land community service program. Funded by the Crouse Hospital Auxiliary, this unique program is designed to lessen the fears and confusion of young children who may have to visit a loved one in the hospital, or stay in a hospital themselves."
